African Arts Association

These activities, delivered by Maurice Dezou of the African Arts Association, can help schools learn about, explore and enjoy different aspects of authentic African culture.

African Arts activities help pupils and teachers gain new skills, help pupils prepare for the wider world, introduce diversity into the curriculum, can help pupils achieve Arts Award and can help schools prepare for achieving Artsmark.

The African Arts Association endeavours to support and promote non-Western arts throughout the North East of England. AAA encourages multicultural community meetings through the arts and music to engender mutual enjoyment and understanding.

These activities will be delivered by Maurice Dezou. Maurice is a West African born musician, artist, film-maker and lecturer; Maurice works extensively across the North East and is an associate of Tees Valley Arts. Maurice was formally a Board Member of Arts Council England North East.

Maurice can provide an up to date CRB check and public liability insurance cover; references are also available on request.

Note to schools: please ensure that a suitable space is provided for activities, and that the class teacher plus any usual additional support staff are present at all times.
